Yes. We can use any diamonds and/or gemstones in the design, or a combination of using your gemstones and new gemstones. If using any of your original diamonds or gemstones, you must sign a ‘STONE REMOVAL AND RESETTING RISK’ acknowledging that Dana’s Goldsmithing takes the greatest care possible when working with your special gemstones, but in cases where we are removing and/or resetting gemstones there are risks involved.
Through experience, we have concluded that melting down the client’s original gold to use in a new casting has not yielded the best metal result. There is no way to assess the alloys or impurities in 'old' metal and therefore we offer our clients the highest credit value for their original gold towards the cost of using new metal for the finished piece. This enables us to be able to guarantee the metal used in the final piece. We can often incorporate original pieces or parts of them into new designs for sentimental reasons.
We do not buy or give credit for any client's diamonds or gemstones.
No Problem. This is the time to make changes. Minor changes are included as part of the design fees, however if you are looking to completely alter the design or begin with a brand new concept there may be additional costs depending on the complexity and changes to metal weights of the new design.
Dana’s Design Team has provided every opportunity to make changes during the design stage and has had confirmation by you to proceed with the finished design after seeing either a hand sketch, coloured and/or computer renderings, and/or a 3D model. Even though we want every customer to LOVE their new piece, alterations to the finished piece at this point would be at the customers expense.

Rhodium is a surface plating from the Platinum alloy, and is used to plate White Gold jewellery, creating a bright white finish. It not only allows for all white gold to have a uniformed colour, but also acts as a hypoallergenic barrier for those sensitivities to the alloys in white gold. Plating will wear off over time, so pieces that are rhodium plated do require a bit of maintenance by having them re-plated every couple of years.
Most of the time-Yes! Rings can be sized up or down, within a certain number of sizes.
Any rings that have stones in the band or hollow parts, are trickier to size, as we can’t manipulate the metal near those stones or hollow sections. This just means that the ring may be slightly oval after sizing. If you’re unsure whether your ring can be sized, please feel free to stop by the store and one of our associates will be happy to help!
Note that sizing doesn’t stop at rings! Most bracelets and necklaces or chains can be shortened or extended to a length you find most comfortable.
We do not offer on the spot repairs or sizing, as our goldsmiths need to take their time with each piece, ensure the proper care is taken and that the finished piece goes through the same quality assessment process.
In some instances, which are decided at the discretion of our production manager, we may be able to complete a ring sizing within 1-2 hours.
Rings can spin for a couple of reasons; the two main ones being that either your ring has more weight at the top or your ring and the ring size varies slightly from your knuckle to the base of your finger. The most common way of fixing this is by adding a couple of gold balls inside the shank. These act as a stabilizer, stopping the spinning. There are also temporary options available.
It depends on the condition of the inherited piece. There are times when the pieces have worn too thin or weak to repair. We can look at Restoration options, or if the piece have sentimental stones, Custom Redesign is an option.
Retipping means to add metal to your existing claws, to build them back up. Over time metal wears, especially at high points, like claws for example, so retipping claws is a common form of maintenance.
If you can’t proceed with the repair quote at that time, your quote is valid for 30 days. Anything longer than that, we will have to revaluate.
